Gothic writing developed in Europe in the 11th - 14th centuries. The visual appearance of Gothic is one of verticality and blackness. The narrowness of the letters made it very economical in terms of the amount of text which could be written on a Scribe's page. There are numerous varieties of Gothic calligraphy. It is best to start with one of the simpler scripts and master that before diversifying.
